The award-winning gospel group Joyous Celebration recorded their 17th album live at Rhema Bible Church in Randburg on Saturday. The 7,000-seater auditorium was packed with fans from all over the country, dancing and screaming with joy over South Africa’s leading gospel choir.

This year’s recording had a lot of surprises, including a performance by 2012 ‘South African Idols’ winner Khaya Mthethwa and the phenomenal Kenny Lattimore.

The audience was blown away when Mthethwa took to the stage, but the biggest surprise of them all was Lattimore, who took to the stage with “You are beautiful”, the song popularly sang by Juanita Bynum, which was a real treat in his amazing voice. The song was done so beautifully, and had everyone on their feet. There’s definitely no denying that Lattimore is indeed blessed with amazing vocal abilities.

The performance of the night went to Nobathembu Mabeka, whose song left the audience begging for more. She had to come back to the stage after finishing her song because her fans were begging for her return.

Mabeka definitely knows how to get the crowd on its feet.

Joyous Celebration is known for exposing new talent and grooming award-winning artists such as SABC Crown Gospel Award winners Ntokozo Mbambo, Kekeletso Phoofolo, Kgotso Makgalema, and many more. One of the talents who were exposed this year is Hlengiwe Ntombela; the lady is just too talented for words, so it’s no wonder she ushered Kenny Lattimore to the stage.

With such talented singers, Joyous Celebration 17 is definitely a must-have album for gospel lovers.

Those staying in Durban can catch some of the Joyous Celebration members, including Pastor Mthunzi and Hlongwane performing with Dominion on Saturday, December 22 at the Old Alhambra Theatre in Durban.
